Collar Construction
The collar is the most visible structural element of a t-shirt. Check collar shape for consistency and symmetry. Stitching around the collar should be even without skipped stitches. The collar ribbing should lay flat without twisting or bunching. Collar issues are immediately noticeable when worn, making this one of the most important t-shirt QC checks.
Print Quality and Placement
For graphic t-shirts, print quality determines the overall look. Graphics should be centered on the chest and properly aligned horizontally. Print edges should be crisp without bleeding. Multi-color designs should have accurate registration. The print should not show cracking, peeling, or fading. Print size should be proportional to the shirt size.
Fabric Weight and Quality
T-shirt fabric weight affects how the shirt drapes and how opaque it is. Heavier weight fabrics generally hold shape better and are less transparent. QC photos should allow assessment of fabric thickness. Hold the shirt up to light visibility is sometimes shown in QC photos for white or light-colored shirts. Fabric should appear consistent in color and texture across the entire garment.
Sizing Accuracy
T-shirt sizing is straightforward but important. Key measurements include chest width, body length, and shoulder width. Compare QC measurements against the size chart or your preferred measurements. T-shirts that run small or large compared to expectations will affect fit satisfaction regardless of other quality factors.
Hem and Sleeve Construction
Bottom hem and sleeve hems should have even stitching without loose threads. The hem should lay flat without waviness or curling. Sleeve length should be consistent between left and right sleeves. These finishing details indicate overall construction quality and attention to detail in manufacturing.
